Welcome

My name is Gemma Fabrés Segalés. I live in Madrid with my husband and my son. I was born in Premià de Mar, which is a lovely coastal village in the heart of Maresme, just 20 km from Barcelona. Even though I love my country, I have, on many occasions had to leave due to my passion for languages.
1992 was a great year for me and it's when my interest in languages really began. The Olympic Games were held in Barcelona and during the summer months I travelled to Bolton, England to take part in an English Language Course at the town’s university. I enjoyed this so much I returned again the following year.
Then in 1997, I left Spain again. I was studying German Philology at the Central University of Barcelona but spent the summer in Freiburg, Germany where I took part in a German language course at The University of Freiburg. This, I found was extremely useful once I began my chosen career.
In 2000, I had the pleasure to receive an Erasmus-Sokrates Scholarship to study in Ludwigsburg, Germany. Here I concluded my studies in German Philology and I began to study Translation and Interpretation which I completed in 2006.
This experience was invaluable. I learned so many interesting things, not only about the German Culture, but about other European countries too. Here I was also very lucky to have made several great friends from all over the world, so I decided to stay. I spent s further 5 years in Stuttgart studying, working and travelling. It was here that I met my other half Linus.
At the end of 2007 Linus and I left Stuttgart and moved to Madrid where Linus had been offered an engineering position. I continue to work as a freelance translator and interpreter and I am a mum to two lovely boys Emil who is 4 years old and Biel, 2 years old.
Nowadays we are living in Munich.
Apart from languages, I love music. I have studied to fifth degree of Music Theory and Harmony at the Conservatories of Barcelona and Badalona, along with Grade 3 Clarinet and Piano. I have also sung in several choirs, including ‘Serra de Marina’ school choir and the town of Premià de Mar choir also.
